A Forum, Famers, Fabulous Volunteers, and Footwork
On Saturday October 18th, Darcy spent the day barnstorming all over the District. The morning started with a candidate forum in Newcastle. Attendees asked lots of good questions, including asking Darcy about the Coal Creek Parkway road revision project. Darcy is a strong supporter of the project, which is needed to improve traffic flow and ease congestion in this growing south Bellevue area.
Congressman Reichert is unwilling or unable to secure funding for legitimate and worthy projects. Darcy believes that funding for local projects should be a transparent process and she has pledged that any funding requests she makes for her district she will stand behind and place the relevant information on her congressional website for everyone to review.
On the road again, Darcy headed to the Puyallup Farmers Market to meet up with Puyallup City Councilwomen Kathy Turner and super volunteer Jerry Beckendorf. They spoke to local vendors and community members. Darcy supported the local economy by buying a handmade vest and a bunch of tomatoes. The topic on everyone's mind was the economy, and Darcy got a chance to talk to numerous people about her plan to lower taxes for middle class taxpayers.
In Graham, Darcy stopped at our campaign office for a canvass kick off. She met with a very excited and energetic group of volunteers getting ready to go out knocking on doors for Darcy. They told her they were happy to share Darcy's message of taking our country in a new direction. After cheering on the volunteers, Darcy went out herself to hit the streets in a Graham neighborhood. She found lots of supporters as she knocked on doors and even convinced several undecided voters.
The last person Darcy spoke to wasn't sure who he was going to vote for. But when Darcy spent 10 minutes explaining her plan for lowering taxes, creating 8th district jobs that cannot be outsourced, and bringing our troops and dollars home from Iraq, the man told Darcy, " You looked me in the eyes and I know I can trust you so I will vote for you." Sometimes the personal connection that comes from having a genuine conversation with people is enough. From the amount of support people showed her when she knocked on their doors it seems that many other voters are making the same decision as well.
