Breast Cancer Awareness Month
In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month staff and volunteers at Darcy Burner for Congress wore pink on October 21st. Wearing pink is a small part of the annual campaign to raise awareness about breast cancer, which affects one in eight women in our country. According to the National Cancer Institute it is estimated that 182,460 women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008. More than 40,000 women will die of breast cancer this year. Prevention and early dedication are the key to effective treatment and survival. Darcy believes our health care system is in need of real reform. Costs are skyrocketing and even those who have insurance are finding it harder and harder to pay out-of-pocket health care costs. Darcy will work to ensure that any reform should place an emphasis on increasing access to preventative care. Preventative care, such as mammograms, diabetes screenings and routine exams, give people the opportunity to address health issues before they become serious -- and expensive -- illnesses. This will save money over time as it improves the health of the American people. With the right approach to reform, access to affordable healthcare for all Americans can finally become a reality. We need real solutions to our healthcare crisis and Darcy Burner will work tirelessly to lower costs and increase access to affordable quality healthcare.
