Burner Campaign Celebrates July 4th!
All of us at from the campaign hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable July 4th celebration last weekend. Our staff proudly marched in the parade in Darcy’s hometown of Carnation on Friday. It was a wonderful experience. We immediately felt embraced by the community and were overwhelmed by the town’s support for the Burner family, who continue to deal with the fire that destroyed their home last week.
We would like to thank all those who marched with us, and all the wonderful people who sent us messages of warmth and good wishes for Darcy and her family in the midst of all the festivities. The words of encouragement and support from those we passed along the parade route added a sense of small town warmth and familiarity to a national holiday.
We enjoyed seeing the other wonderful groups who participated, as well as the great view of the crowd we had from our position in the middle of the action. The most thrilling aspect of the event, no doubt, was seeing hundreds of children lined up and eagerly awaiting the Darcy Burner stickers, candy, and balloons that we handed out. By the end, we had run out of each!
The Carnation parade was a wonderful start to the day, and left us eager to see how the rest of the 8th Congressional District was celebrating our nation’s Independence Day.
After restocking our supply of buttons, stickers, candy, and balloons at our Auburn office, half of us headed over to Les Gove Park where we witnessed a truly impressive Fourth of July festival, full of patriotic spirit. The abundance of food, games, and fun created a family-friendly atmosphere where once again we felt welcomed by a great community.
The mix of ages and wealth of activities created a great atmosphere. At the festival, we had lots of conversations with parents, grandparents, veterans, and some of the kids in attendance as we passed out stickers and information on saving money on energy costs as gas prices shoot higher – it was clear that these rising costs are a concern for just about all of the families we spoke with.
While part of our crew was in Auburn, the rest were in Kent at Lake Meridian Park. We enjoyed running into representatives from Governor Gregoire’s campaign, as well as our union members who had recently met with Darcy. We were also joined by volunteers from Senator Obama’s campaign, who were out registering lots of new voters.
We ended the day marching down Cole Street in Enumclaw as part of another great parade. The event was made even more fun as we were joined on the parade route by Gregoire volunteers. Again, we were overwhelmed by the contagious enthusiasm of the children as we tried to master marching, waving, and dispensing goodies all at once. The candy, stickers, and balloons were again favorites with the children.
Everyone at Darcy Burner for Congress would like to thank the residents of the 8th Congressional District for the energy and spirit that they gave to the day’s celebrations, and for so warmly welcoming us at your community events. We hope everyone felt the same sense of patriotic pride and friendship that we did.
