Thank You Student Volunteers!

Interlake High Student Volunteers

It is conventional wisdom that young people are apathetic about politics and disinterested in the world around them, but we've found just the opposite on the Burner campaign. For example, on Wednesday, August 13th, 17 year old Stephen Bronskill organized a group of over a dozen students from Interlake High School to volunteer for the campaign. Stephen and his friends prove that young people can and do care about politics. Many of the students had never been involved with a political campaign before -- it was their first time canvassing, and they enjoyed it. Student Ajay Mehta said about the experience: "While I was nervous at first, it was great to get involved in a campaign that will get our country back on the right track."

The Interlake students went canvassing in a variety of neighborhoods around the district in an effort to persuade voters and to help get out the vote in anticipation of the upcoming primary election on August 19th.  Adam Gillman noted that, "Young people cannot afford to be spectators in this critical election and must get involved in order to bring about change."

The group of students plan to found a chapter of Interlake for Darcy Burner at their high school and will meet every Wednesday and Saturday at campaign headquarters to help spread the word to voters about Washington state's next Congresswoman.

This is just one example of many. Students are a big part of the Darcy Burner campaign.  Our student volunteers learn real world skills: in communication, planning, problem solving, team work and leadership. And they get the opportunity to make a real difference in changing our country for the better.

Darcy and the campaign would like to thank all our student volunteers. They may not all be able to vote yet, but they are nevertheless making a big difference in our community. Thank you for your energy, your enthusiasm to learn and try new things, and your passion for bringing real change to Washington, D.C.
