Darcy Burner Defies Odds Makers, Bets on a Big Seahawks Win
Bellevue, WA (Jan. 10) – Darcy Burner, the Democratic candidate in the 8th congressional district, announced today that she has made a public wager with Marge Krupp the Democratic candidate in the 1st congressional district in SE Wisconsin, on the outcome of the Seahawks-Packers playoff game on Saturday.
At stake on the game, besides state pride, is a week's supply of Seattle coffee offered by Burner against a slab of Wisconsin cheddar cheese offered up by Krupp. The two Democratic challengers spoke earlier this week by phone and decided to place the ceremonial wager.
“I’ve warned my campaign staff that they are going to be eating a lot of grilled cheese sandwiches next week, because the ‘Hawks are going to blow out the Packers,” Burner said. “The odds makers have proven themselves to be as clueless as New Hampshire pollsters by making Green Bay eight point favorites. No chance, no way. I say the Seahawks are going to win going away, 31-17.”
Krupp countered that Green Bay would not only win, but beat the spread. “Without the 12th man, Seattle is doomed, and we have home-field advantage,” Krupp opined. “Our high octane offense is unstoppable. On Saturday we’re going to make Mike Holmgren deeply sorry he ever left Green Bay.”
“Even after the Seahawks win, Marge is still going to get her Seattle coffee, because it would be cruel to deprive her of our Northwest bounty,” Burner said. “But it is going to arrive with a sympathy note.”
Darcy Burner, a former Microsoft manager, is running to unseat Rep. Dave Reichert in Washington's 8th congressional district. Burner came within 3% of winning the seat in 2006 and has been running one of the strongest challenger campaigns in the country since announcing her candidacy in March of 2007.
Marge Krupp is a lifelong resident of Wisconsin’s 1st congressional district and is running to unseat incumbent Rep. Paul Ryan. With over 20 years of professional experience in engineering and management, Krupp intends to bring a unique and critical perspective to Congress.
